Which author, in your opinion, was the greater? Meaning, which do you believe is more well known, or was a better author?

J. R. R. Tolkien. Hands down.
C. S. Lewis isn't as descriptive and as good as a writer as Tolkien. Tolkien's books are magical. They grab you and make you feel as if you were in Middle Earth, fighting with the armies. C. S. Lewis is just a closet case. (Pun intended. ) |

I agree with you Matter, Tolkien really brings you to Middle Earth, and you can really imagine what it would be like.

Both of them are very good writers and both have good series. Both however pale in comparison to Piers Anthony, R.A. Salvatore, Robert Jordan, Mercedes Lackey, Anne McCaffrey and Dean Koontz.

Anywho. I don't see how Tolkien pales to these writers. All are amazing, but I find Tolkien to be more descriptive and gripping in his writings, on a level that few other authors have the power and finesse to do. |

In my opinion, the authors I listed have the power to grip me from the start. Rarely do I come across a book by those authors where it takes me more then 2 days to finish their books. Koontz and Salavatore are the 2 best out of the group. Of course it's only my opinion. Tolkein is good, but I find it easy to become a tad distracted when reading his works. |
